I have a lot of trouble socializing with people in my church because of my own fears and I would have jumped at a chance like this.
I was wondering if perhaps you could invite these ladies over to your home for a girl's movie night. I haven't tried this myself but my sister (who is hearing and lives across the country from me) has several times. This way you could have the captions on and you could break the ice with these ladies in a comfortable setting. Whatever you decide to do, I will be interested in what happens next for you. I've heard of open captioning at a larger theater, and they only show it at certain times. It is more expensive, but worth a try.

I'll give it another go and let you know what happens. Thanks for your kind words and support!Frieda Loves Breadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00265482581165683185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8368345914438155797.post-62905233358120080072010-08-29T13:31:59.856-06:002010-08-29T13:31:59.856-06:00Hi Frieda!

If so, I suggest going back to the group, explain what happened, and then gently and friendly, suggest they go with you to a captioned movie and YOU set up the date, time, etc.

just an idea. . . .

I am also hard of hearing and rooting for you!

-Nancy LeeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8368345914438155797.post-59780489989554946512010-08-29T09:23:30.103-06:002010-08-29T09:23:30.103-06:00Frieda,

I wanted to share one of my favorite quotes: "Why are you trying so hard to fit in when you were born to stand out."

This is an opportunity for you to go up to the gals and let them know what happened and explain about conversations in groups and how hard it is for you. I did that with my neighbors and it changed everything. I have gone out to dinner with as many as five at once and they all know how they have to take turns and wait for me to watch them before speaking.

Here's to better days ahead!Karen Putzhttp://www.deafmomworld.comnoreply@blogger.com
